Jo Dent – Chief Executive
Jo Dent qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 1983. As a clinician she worked with people with neurological damage and specialised in the treatment of stammering.
After several years, she moved into a management career that lasted over the following 23 years. A majority of that time was spent working with different NHS and Social care regulators as a regional director. This required Jo to work with a number of hospital boards who were challenged and struggling to meet the regulatory requirements.
Jo also worked as a Director of Governance and Change in a large Acute Trust and held a similar position in an Independent Mental Health Hospital.
In June 2016 Jo took up a role in the third sector as Chief Executive of Relate of Yorkshire.
In her spare time Jo enjoys watching Huddersfield Town, walking, sailing and skiing.
Carol Burke MBE – Trustee
Carol retired from a senior management position as Head of Learning and Skills /Head of Children and Families at HMP Askham Grange in 2011.
Having been a teacher in mainstream education, she took up a teaching position in HM Prisons and moved into middle management to deliver a contract for high quality learning programmes to enable successful resettlement for prisoners on their release. These programmes were subject to rigorous audit and inspection.
She was seconded to a number of prisons across the U.K. to support the introduction and development of multi-disciplinary sentence planning.
She became a senior manager within Askham Grange and had responsibility for Learning and skills provision across the prison and was given the additional responsibility for Children and Families.
She led a multi disciplinary team and working collaboratively with a number of agencies and researchers and introduced highly innovative (sometimes controversial) ways to enable families to maintain, re-establish or build on their relationships with their children and families whilst serving a sentence to mitigate against the damage caused by serving a prison sentence however long or short.
Since retirement she has joined a number of groups locally, tried to master golf and spends time with grandchildren.
Hannah Dickinson – Trustee
Hannah joined the Relate Mid-Yorks Board in January 2017. She is the founder of What We Do Matters (WWDM Ltd) a consultancy specialising in Corporate Social Responsibility, where she works with organisations to develop their sustainable business strategy and articulate their message as a responsible employer, partner and supplier.
Hannah brings over thirty years of commercial experience to the role having previously worked for Blue Chip companies across the Financial Services sector. Her relevant areas of expertise include: Corporate Governance and Operational Risk, Business Change Management and IT project delivery.
She is an experienced cross-business mentor and created the successful mentoring scheme for BNP Paribas in the UK. Hannah works as a volunteer for Diversity Role Models an LGBT anti-bullying charity working in schools and is a member of the Harrogate Chamber of Commerce.
Andrew Goodwin – Trustee
Andrew has been involved in business for much of his life, first in purchasing and then over the last 25 years in sales. He is currently an Account Manager for an international packaging company, responsible for all UK customers.
In 2007 Andrew qualified as a Relate Counsellor and having seen at first hand the change and success Relate brings to people’s lives, he is committed to supporting the work of the charity.
Andrew believes that much of people’s mental well being is determined by the quality of their relationships and has spent most of his counselling career working with both adults and young people.
Daphne Jackson – Trustee
Daphne works for the NHS as a Senior Psychologist Therapist. She has long experience in working with children and adults in the mental health field and understands good relationships are fundamental to a satisfying life.
As a Trustee of Relate Mid Yorks, she is able to support the work of the charity and brings her extensive experience in developing services and ensuring that clients receive a first class service.
